When Volkswagen introduced the first Golf GTI in 1976, a new car segment emerged: the hot hatch. A compact hatchback that was not only practical and nimble, but also offered sporty performance that until then had been reserved for much more expensive coupes and sedans. The GTI immediately became a cult phenomenon and became an icon of the 80s.
In 1983, the Golf GTI was delivered with the more powerful 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic injection, good for 112 hp. Thanks to its low weight of just over 800 kilos, it delivered impressive performance: a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 9 seconds and a top speed of 182 km/h. Figures that made the Golf GTI one of the most desirable sports cars of its generation at the time.
This 1983 example is equipped with the original, rarer striped sports interior, which, in combination with the three-spoke sports steering wheel and the characteristic black headliner, gives the interior a distinctly sporty look.
