Alpina was an independent brand until recently. The cars were registered as Alpina and not as BMW and had their own production line. While the cars were built at the BMW plants, final assembly took place at Alpina itself. Alpina models were known for their refinement and sporty performance, combining sportiness and comfort. The models were often marked with a ‘B’ (petrol) or ‘D’ (diesel) and could be recognized by the Alpina logos on the rims and the engine.
In 2022, BMW took over Alpina, so that Alpina became part of the BMW Group from then on. Despite the takeover, Alpina will continue to operate independently until 2025 and will therefore continue to be seen as an independent brand, with the latest Alpina creations such as this B5 GT. Even after 2025, BMW will determine the future of Alpina.
